Member Levels

There are four types of membership in ISD as outlined in the bylaws:

Trainee Member: is expected to attend two thirds of all trainings and meetings to be in good standing as a member of ISD. The trainee is expected to actively work on achieving additional trainings to work towards mission ready status. After being a trainee member for approximately six (6) months from first joining the team trainee members will be interviewed and evaluated by a majority of the board members. The purpose of this interview and evaluation is to:

a. ascertain the progress of the trainee towards mission ready status, b. determine actions that may be taken by the team and/or trainee to enhance the trainee’s progress, c. discuss any reservations regarding the trainee’s commitment, conduct, or skill development that may make the trainee unable to fulfill a useful role as and ISD member and to develop an action plan to correct the problem.

Mission Ready Navigator: Person meeting WAC 118.04 requirements along with ISD requirements for mission ready status. Must be a member in good standing for a minimum of 6 months. See Requirements for complete listing and description of mission ready requirements and criteria for assessments. (minimum age 18)

Mission Ready Dog Handler: Dog handler member who with their dog has passed their field function test and has completed WAC 118.04 requirements along with other requirements for mission ready status. See Appendix 1 for complete listing and description of mission ready requirements and criteria for assessments. (minimum age 18) Must be a member in good standing for a minimum of 6 months.

Training Support: Member who hides for dog teams or provides other assistance during practice. This member does not participate in real searches. (minimum age 15 with written parental permission or age 18)
